Description

Messier 34 (NGC 1039) is an open star cluster, consisting about one hundred stars, in the constellation Perseus.  It was discovered by Italian astronomer Giovanni Batista Hodierna, according to historians, sometime before 1654.  NGC 1039 is estimated to lie 1,500 light years from Earth with a radius of 7.5 light years.
